Lubuto Library Partners was awarded grants in 2019 and 2021 to establish coding workshops for girls in Lusaka. The 2019 grant funded the development of a 12-week curriculum for a Girls Can Code! program for Lubuto Libraries and provided staff training to implement the program. Two staff members are fully ready to run the youth workshops once it is safe to do so.

The 2021 grant supports the development of STEM skills among marginalized girls by running four 12-week workshops using the Girls Can Code! curriculum for 96 girls between the ages of 11 and 20 in Lusaka. These STEM workshops will teach programming, computer logic, circuitry, electronics, robotics and physical programming, and computer systems and architecture. This will not only provide girls with new skills but will also expose them to female role models in STEM fields. The project prioritizes girls living in poverty from under-resourced communities and schools.
