Lubuto Library Programs Enhancing Lives
Two really good things have happened this week, and both are a result of the flexible library space that we enjoy here at Lubuto. First, I have started to do some LubutoStorytimes outside. I still love using the Talking Circle, but there have been a couple of cooler days, so I decided to take a few of the kids and sit in the sun so that we could warm up a little while we read. This was a great success - children who never use the Library spotted us and came over to join in. Adults who were walking past stopped to see what was going on. And I get to top up my tan at the same time (!). I will definitely be doing this on a more regular basis in the future.
The second involves the LubutoLaptops. One of the boys, Isaac, said that he wanted to teach me how to use one of the programmes, so I said that I would love to have a training session - but that he would have to bring a laptop into the Reading Room from the Arts and Activities Room, so that I could supervise the area at the same time. When he had finished showing me his favourite programme I realised that a crowd of small girls had gathered - girls who are usually quite shy and would probably not have the confidence to go into the Arts and Activities Room and ask to use a computer. Isaac was glad to show them how to use the laptop and they had a great time. So maybe I will be bringing the odd laptop into the Reading Room from now on as well!
