Celebrations in the Lubuto Libraries

Last Thursday was World Book Day. To commemorate this I showed the boys at Fountain of Hope Lubuto Library how to make their own mini books from a sheet of A4 paper and we spent a happy morning creating our own masterpieces. My particular favourite (not that I have favourites...) was Put Me In the Zoo, Mwiya Skyboy, an interesting adaptation of the Dr Seuss classic! On Tuesday this week we celebrated Youth Day in Zambia, and the Lubuto Library Project took a central role in the event that took place at Fountain of Hope. We masterminded a dancing competition, which was hugely successful with the participants and the big crowd watching, and some boys from the LubutoDrama group performed a piece which they had devised with Kasela, Fountain of Hope Lubuto Librarian-in-Training and LubutoDrama facilitator. I also took some face paints and spent a full morning (and a large part of the afternoon) painting the faces of literally hundreds of children. It was a wonderful day and lovely to see the boys and girls alike taking part in several celebratory activities and really showing their talents.

It may sound as if I have not spent much time at Ngwerere Lubuto Library recently - but I had a wonderful day there yesterday, as well. I had a brainstorming session with Steven, the Library Manager there, and we discussed activities that we can develop for the children there. I am very excited about some of the things we have planned - so watch this space!
